Triumph of the Spirit: Holocaust Stories Through Music

On April 18, in commemoration of Yom HaShoah, we presented a powerful and inspiring concert program in The Soraya’s Great Hall entitled “Triumph of the Spirit: Holocaust Stories Through Music.” Performances of the one-hour program, which was organized in collaboration with The Soraya’s Arts Education Program of Matinees and Master Classes, were given at 10:00am and 12:00pm to a rapt audience of nearly 2,000 4th-12th grade students

The program was the largest student matinee in the history of The Soraya! One of the most touching moments included featured composer and Holocaust survivor Shony Alex Braun’s daughter, Dinah, lighting 6 memorial candles at the beginning of the performance. Soloists included LAJS Founding Concertmaster Mark Kashper, and 21-year-old pianist Samuel Glicklich.

Check out some highlights from the two performances!
