Presented by Adat Shalom

Join us for a powerful Kristallnacht commemoration featuring the Requiem Ebraico by survivor Eric Zeisl—a moving tribute to his father and the victims of the Shoah. Originally conceived as a memorial work, this profound composition has become one of Zeisl’s most frequently performed pieces.
Presented by Adat Shalom in Westwood, the program will be conducted by Dr. Noreen Green, Founding Artistic Director of the Los Angeles Jewish Symphony, and will feature Kol Ha’am: Voice of the People Choir; vocal soloists Cantors Mark Childs, Elizabeth Kerstein, and Lisa Peicott; and LA Philharmonic cellist Barry Gold. Special guest E. Randol Schoenberg, Esq.—grandson of Eric Zeisl—will speak on the legacy of his grandfather’s music and memory.

Cantor Mark Childs earned his Master of Sacred Music degree along with an ordination as Cantor in 1991 from Hebrew Union College-Debbie Friedman School of Sacred Music in New York City. Cantor Childs has served Congregation B’nai B’rith in Santa Barbara, CA since 1991. His worship services and educational/cultural programming have enriched both Jew and non-Jew alike throughout the greater Santa Barbara area where he resides with his wife Shari. His son Cantor David Childs serves Temple Beth Israel in Port Washington, NY. His son Adam is studying in Lakewood, NJ.
He has a particular interest in interfaith dialogue through music and study and serves as a board member of the Interfaith Initiative of Santa Barbara County. He is active as a concert artist, is a prolific commissioner of new Jewish music, and has produced four professional albums, including his latest “The Layered Path” with his son David and pianist Bob Remstein. Cantor Childs is a member of both the American Conference of Cantors and the Cantors Assembly.

Cantorial Soloist Elizabeth Kerstein joined Temple Ahavat Shalom in 2021. She uses both music and teaching to create the spiritual tone of the TAS community alongside Rabbi Becky. She leads weekly services, conducts the High Holiday and children’s choirs, works with the B’nai Mitzvah students, and strives to enrich temple life for current and prospective members. Since coming to TAS, she has organized concerts, including a chamber music celebration of Shabbat Shira, and has taught numerous Adult B’nai Mitzvah and adult education classes.
Prior to beginning her cantorial career, Elizabeth was a classical musician and music teacher. She sang in the Baltimore, San Diego, and Santa Barbara Opera Choruses and performed principal roles with Pacific Opera Project and at the Southern Illinois Music Festival. Over the course of a decade, she was the alto soloist at Sinai Temple, Temple Judea, and Chizuk Amuno in Baltimore.

Cantor Lisa Peicott was named the Senior Cantor of Wilshire Boulevard Temple in October 2023, after having served in that community since 2018 as Assistant Cantor. She regularly appears in cantorial concerts and recitals throughout Los Angeles, specializing in the interpretation of classical and contemporary Jewish music.
A classically trained soprano, Cantor Peicott earned her undergraduate and Master’s degrees in Music on full scholarship from the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, before entering into her cantorial studies at the Academy for Jewish Religion of California. Her many roles at UCLA included Nanetta in Verdi’s Falstaff, Tina in the West Coast Premiere of Johnathan Dove’s Flight, the title role in Handel’s Agrippina, and Blanche de la Force in Poulenc’s Dialogues of the Carmelites. Cantor Peicott was a two-time musical fellow at the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria, where she studied opera and performed in recitals throughout Europe.
