A special symphonic concert honoring the 10th Yahrzeit of Rabbi Harold M. Schulweis in collaboration with the Harold M. Schulweis Institute, featuring the enduring musical legacy of Aminadav Aloni on his 25th Yahrzeit.

The evening begins with a traditional Minyan at 5:00 PM, a pre-concert dinner at 6:00 PM and a FREE concert at 8:00 PM. The dinner is ticketed; however, tickets to the concert portion are FREE. Registration is REQUIRED.

Cantor Jacqueline Rafii is the Senior Cantor of Valley Beth Shalom Synagogue (VBS). She also serves as the music director for the Synagogue, Day School, Religious School, and ECC. She is best known for her creative, multi-generational musical initiatives that invigorate and build community. In August 2024, Cantor Rafii joined the LAJS Chamber Ensemble in “A Tapestry of Jewish Music: a chamber concert” at the IAC Shepher Community Center. She is delighted to work with longtime VBS member Dr. Noreen Green, who conducts the new VBS Community Choir, which performs at special events and holidays at VBS throughout the year.

For 20 years, Cantor Ben Tisser has been a leading voice and spirit in the American Cantorate. He has served prominent congregations in Los Angeles, New York, Boca Raton, Chicago and Minneapolis.

Hazzan Tisser has served on the Executive Council of the Cantors Assembly, the largest body of Hazzanim in the world, and was for six years President of its Midwest Region. In November 2023, he organized and led an emergency support mission to Israel and is completing production on a film documenting that historic visit. In 2024, he founded Benari Capital, the first investment firm in the country designed to serve leaders of the Jewish community. When not crunching numbers or singing, he can be found at his piano, in the kitchen or enjoying a glass of wine.

Cantor Phil Baron is the son of a violinist and the grandson of a Vilna rabbi. This combination of influences should have led him immediately into the world of Jewish music. Instead, he first took a successful detour into children’s entertainment, where he had over 300 original songs recorded — nearly 200 of these by the Walt Disney Company. In addition, he has been the voice of such loveable characters as “Piglet” and “Teddy Ruxpin.” Read More
